The fourth edition of the Loyola Global Awards was held at the Sri Mulam club on 15th June 2019. There were over 300 loyolites and their families, along with almost the entire faculty of retired and present staff of the school. The chief guest for the evening was Air Marshal B Suresh PVSM AVSM VM ADC, AOC in C Southern Air Command, himself an alumnus of the school for a two year period. Present on the dais for the formal event where the President of LOBA, Ram Mohan; Secretary of LOBA, Manu Govind; the principal, Fr Devassy Paul SJ; Rector, Fr Sunny Kunnappalil SJ and the two awardees Sujith Varghese Thomas and Sanjay Vijaykumar.
The function began with a silent remembrance of those who departed us this past year. The school choir performed a joyous rendition of the school song. Nikhil Raj, Treasurer of LOBA, welcomed the gathering. The first batch to pass out from school- the batch of 1968, was honored with a mention and a display of photographs from that age.
The Young Achiever Sanjay Vijaykumar was introduced to the audience with a short video and a citation. The award was presented to Sanjay by the Principal, Fr Devassy Paul SJ. In his acceptance speech, Sanjay Vijaykumar spoke on setting one's goals in life based on one's own aspirations. He also spoke briefly on his role in shaping the New Education Policy. The principal, Fr Devassy Paul SJ, while congratulating the awardees, spoke on the role that Loyola School has been playing in helping its alumni and LOBA. The President of LOBA, Ram Mohan, spoke about the achievements of the association over the last year and its future aspirations. He stressed on the importance of giving back to those in society who are in need, especially relating the efforts of both awardees in this particular regard. The important role that LOBA played during the relief and rescue operations that followed the devastation wrought by the floods last year, was detailed in a recorded presentation by Wing Commander (Retd) N Ranjan Kanthy. Those who were involved in this effort were honored with mementos presented to them by the Rector, Fr Sunny Kunnappalil SJ.
After a video introduction of the GLA awardee Sujith Varghese Thomas, the chief guest Air Marshal Suresh presented the prestigious Global Leadership Award to Sujith. In his acceptance speech, Sujith talked about the severe inequalities that exist in other parts of India and the importance of his faith in his destiny that led him to try and help the underprivileged in society. The chief guest, in his address, was appreciative of LOBA's various activities and the camaraderie that was on display.
The LINK subscription card was symbolically released by the secretary of LOBA, Manu Govind, by handing over a model card to the GAL winner, Sujith Varghese Thomas. The joint secretary of LOBA, Sharath Krishnan, gave the vote of thanks and the meeting was closed with the rendition of the national anthem.
While dinner was being served, the teachers and nonteaching staff were mobbed by the loyolites in an amazing display of affection. Entertainment was chiefly provided by the alumni themselves, with a dance troupe and the band belting out rousing tunes. The livewire DJ then sent the crowd into raptures with his skills.
